ADDRESSES – How does GPS calculate Street Addresses?

First the GPS  unit takes the longitude & latitude)
Then it starts looking for the addresses in an ever increasing circle (i.e.10, 20 & 30 Metres)
Until it finds the closest street that it runs in to around the asset

Second, the number address is based on the number of locations on each street
It calculates if you are halfway you are then at the half number (i.e. if 10 addresses then the 5th one in the list is chosen)
If in an industrial area with crescents and curves it can be inaccurate.
For instance the Technician parks his car at the back of 4141 Sladeview, our address, but the GPS shows it at Ridgeway (just east of Sladeview) since it is closer to that address in the rear parking lot location.
The unit has a tendency to be more accurate in urban residential areas.

Monitor – When using my laptop for in-vehicle navigation I have 'ghosting' problems on the monitor.

This is a very common issue with Windows XP and all GPS receivers. The problem is that sometimes Windows sees the gps serial port as a serial mouse attached to the laptop. This is what causes the ghosting or erratic behavior with the cursor.

SOLUTION: Click: Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager, Mice, Microsoft Serial Ball Point, Actions, disable, OK. Reboot

The vehicle mileage (odometer) and run time (hour meter) are automatically reported by the GPS from the date of installation. Both mileage and run time are set at  ‘0’ as default if no other value is entered at setup. These values are shown in the Event and Vehicle usage reports.
Mileage run time is configured under SETUP
If you view the Event report mileage is shown for the date range requested (i.e. start time shows 0 Mph/Kph), however if you download the Event report it will shows the vehicles real mileage (kilometers) and runtime based on the value recorded at time of installation.
